The Irkutsk Regional Art Museum after the name of V.P. Sukachov is the richest art museum in Siberia. It was created on the basis of a private collection of Vladimir Sukachov (1849-1920), an eminent public figure and a mayor of Irkutsk. Ancient Russian and Siberian icons, as well as wooden sculptures of the XVIII century are part of the museum’s exposition. The portrait gallery of the museum’s Russian collection contains canvas by Repin, Polenov, Tropinin, Levitsky, Brullov, Vasnetsov, Kustodiev. The collection of the West European paintings is presented by masters from France, Germany, England, Holland and Flanders of the XVII–XIX centuries.
