Aya Bay

See map »
Aya Bay in Evenk language means “good, comfortable”, and it is situated at 2.5 km northwards the Angara’s estuary, and at 12 km from Elantsy village. The bay is perfectly protected against the winds, extends deeply into the mainland by 800 m, and its width is equal to 600 m. The high rocky capes embrace the bay from both sides, and there is a wonderful beach in the deepness in form of a half moon. The bay comprises four caves that are situated at 2 km north-west the pier, in the marble table land. The biggest cave impresses with a great number of branches that are decorated with the calciferous formations along with the calcite crystals. Moreover, there are cave paintings preserved at three places inside Aya bay. They occupy not a large area on the smooth rocky surface under the stone visor. The human and animal figures are depicted in various ways there. Among the ancient, deeply caved figures there had been conserved another paintings that are characterized with slightly caved outlines and depict people together with goats, deer, dogs and other animals. Some of the pictures can hardly be explained. Probably, they picture separate attributes of shamanism, emblems or other tribal signs of property.
