Khoboy Cape

the northernmost point of Olkhon Island
See map »
The northernmost cape of Olkhon Island is the cape Khoboy that means “a fang, a molar” in the Buryat language. The form of the cape really bears resemblance to a fang. But if you look at the cape sideways, it reminds a woman’s profile; therefore it’s also called Deva Rock (Maiden Rock). From the earliest times Khoboy was considered to be a sacred place and served for performing religious rites. Khoboy Cape is located near the widest part of Lake Baikal (79.5 km / 50 mi), and it’s only possible to make out the eastern shore and hilly outline of the Svyatoy Nos peninsula when it’s fine.
