Tour Overview:

Russian people believe that success in a new year depends on the way one celebrates a New Year's Eve. People begin to prepare for this holiday some months before and long to make wishes for the new coming year at midnight of December 31. This journey will give you an exceptional opportunity to make your most secret wishes on the shores of the deepest lake in the world.

During this tour you will go dog sledding and snowmobiling through wild taiga. You will visit typical Buryat village and its welcoming Buddhist temple situated at the foot of picturesque mountains. These and many other adventures await for you in this tour.

For the New Year's Eve party we will gather in the restaurant where we will meet famous characters of Russian fairy tales - the Father Frost and the Snow Maiden.

Tour Programme:

Day 1

Arrival at Irkutsk. Pick-up not included. Homestay accommodation. Rest. After lunch walking city tour : central square, old churches, traditional wooden houses. Dinner and overnight at hotel***.

Day 2

In the morning visit to the museum of Decembrists. Drive to the village of Listvyanka situated at 70 km (44 mi) from Irkutsk on the shore of Lake Baikal. On the way visit to open-air museum of wooden architecture - Taltsy, discovery of typical Siberian village of 18th – 19th cen. Opportunity to slide on cow skins – traditional Russian amusement. Arrival at Listvyanka. Lunch at restaurant. Visit to the museum of Lake Baikal, learning about the Baikal flora and fauna. Accommodation in hotel in the village. Walks, discovery of local wooden church, Christmas tree.

Day 3

Morning at leisure. After the lunch at 14:00 transfer to the riding sport centre for meeting instructor and dogs and safety briefing. Dog sledding and snowmobiling (if number of participants is more that 4 persons, part of group goes snowmobiling – during the trip they can exchange). We will pass taiga towards Chernaya Valley (northward of Listvyanka). Arrival to inn situated very close to the shore of the lake. Rest, banya (Russian sauna).

Day 4

Return to Listvyanka in the morning. Lunch at restaurant overlooking the lake. Ropeway to Chersky Rock to enjoy wonderful panorama of the lake and its surroundings, possibility to ski (at extra cost). Descent on foot. Return to hotel. According to the Russian tradition – banya in the evening to wash all the problems of the previous year away before entering new year. At night we will gather at restaurant of the hotel for the New Year’s Eve party. Ded Moroz (Father Frost) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden), traditional music and floor show await you.

Day 5

Morning at leisure. After breakfast 2-hour cruise towards the Circum-Baikal Railway, monument to the history and architecture of the 19th cen. In the evening return to Irkutsk. Hotel accommodation.

Day 6

Drive to the Sayan mountains to Buryat village of Arshan (4-hour way). Hotel accommodation. Walk along the village.

Day 7

In the morning walk to Buddhist temple, Datsan, situated at the foot of majestic mountains. Walk along ice-covered Kyngarga-river (which means « Drum » in Buryat language) with marble bottom.In the evening return to Irkutsk. Hotel overnight.

Day 8

Departure after breakfast. Drop-off not included. End of the programme.

During dog-sledding tour the English-speaking guide is not included. You will be accompanied by the professional musher.

The balance of 70% is to be paid 21 days before departure.
