Tour Overview

The train follows the route Irkutsk - Port Baikal - Irkutsk weekly from May till October. It departs on Friday evening and arrives on Sunday evening. In July-August additional departures on Tuesday are possible with return to Irkutsk on Thursday. Please get more specific information while booking.

The train consists of cars of the following categories: compartment cars, lounge cars and a dining-car. The interior of cars as well as train staff uniform is done in retro style. Every compartment of thematic lounge car is decorated in different themes: railway, literature, revolution, peasants, painting, cinema/music, sea and technics. The second lounge car is designed in style of "The Circum-Baikal Railway history". One of compartments cars is decorated in the style of the time of Nicholas II.

Sightseeing and entertainment programme will be offered to you during the train stops. The dining-car staff will cook tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner for you.

Tour programme
  • Day 1
    Departure from the train station of Irkutsk-Passazhirsky at about 10.50 pm (time is to be checked). Overnight aboard the train. NB : The retro train is propelled by electro-locomotive from Irkutsk to Slyudyanka where it changes to steam locomotive. This passage follows the Trans-Siberian Railway and takes approximately 3,5 hours.
  • Day 2
    Sightseeing programme, visiting places of interest, and entertainment programme. Excursions on the way : Stop at Polovinnaya station. General information about the Circum-Baikal Railway and Lake Baikal. Visit to the tunnels. Walk to the shore of Lake Baikal. Return following the cape (easy acclivity and easy slope). Stop at Port Baikal station. Information about the construction of the Circum-Baikal Railway and station of Port Baikal. Walk to the pier. Way up to the lighthouse following Baranchik Cape (easy climbing for about 3 km (1.8 mi). Walk in Port Baikal. Visit to the museum of the construction history of the Circum-Baikal Railway in the building of the railway station. Stop at Ulanovo station. Excursion to Berezovaya Bay (about 1,5 km (1 mi) on the straight). At will - continuation of excursion to see unique engineering construction - "Italian wall". Return following the same route. In the evening - folk group performance, disco. Night in the train cars at Ulanovo station.
  • Day 3
    Sightseeing programme continues. Stop near the Kirkirey stream. Walk. Sightseeing tour. Stop near Krutaya Bay.Walk following the path turning round the tunnel (3-4 km/2-2.5 mi). Stop at Kultuk station. Sightseeing tour of Kultuk. Visit to the museum. Return to Irkutsk in the evening.
