Tour Overview

The vast expanse of the valley of the Barguzin River liesonly 50 km/31 mi from Lake Baikal. This land, according to legend, is the native land of Genghis Khan's mother; it is rich in archeological and natural sights, including rock paintings more than 3000 years old, a stone garden of 10 sq km (4 sq mi), salt lakes and sharp pillars of majestic rocks, like teeth. We will discover the famous Bull Stone, a sacred site for the Buryats of Barguzin. By offroadster, we will travel over the northernmost steppe of all of Asia, which contrastssharply with the the other Baikal landscapes.

 

Tour programme
  • Day 1
    200 km/125 mi day journey All-day excursion to Barguzinskaya Valley. We will pass through the village of Barguzin (not to be confused with Ust-Barguzin), first settlement site of the Russians over Lake Baikal. Discovery of the valley and its sightseeings. Picnic in the open air. Return to Ust-Barguzin in the evening.
