Nerpa is the unique fresh water seal in the world. It occupies the entire lake basin, but especially the northern and central parts. Today researchers have various assumptions about its appearance in the Baikal. The nerpa brings her babies into the world on the ice in the den of snow. The majority of small nerpas are born in the middle of March. Their fur is white, and that enables them to stay unnoticed on snow. The Buryats call a young nerpa "khubunok".

This exceptional trip will allow you to observe these rare animals thanks to an old technique of hunting nerpas - but you will be armed only with your cameras! The trip proceeds in a sublime decoration at the end of winter, and in the most lenient atmosphere for the season.

Day 1 Transfer to the bus station of Ulan-Ude at about 9 a.m. Departure to Ust-Barguzin by bus (240 km). We will cross taiga and reach the Baikal lakeside, then our way will be along-shore (and sometimes it is only a track, not road...). Arrival to the village. Homestay accommodation, lunch.Discovery of village, walk along the shore. Dinner with locals. In the evening banya (Russian sauna).

Day 4 After breakfast return to Ulan-Ude early in the morning. Arrival to the city at about 2 p.m., transfer to the hotel or to the station. End of the programme.

Days 2 and 3 By offroadster or snowmobile we will go to search nerpas who rest near their hole in the ice. We will equip you with special white clothes of hunters for nerpas, will give you hunting equipment with which we will approach nerpas. Lunch outdoors. To stay overnight we will return to the village to restore the forces before hunting for the photos! Banya in the evening.
