This trip will bring us to discover Siberian brown bears in Barguzinskiy reserve and Zabaikalskiy National Park. In spring, after months of hibernation, these hosts of taiga leave on the shores of Lake Baikal to regale themselves with small moths-flies "Rucheynik". These butterflies which breed at this period cover all stones and pebbles of the lakeside and represent a natural treat for the famished after winter bears... Floating by small fishing motor boat, discreet, we will approach these majestic animals to admire them. During two days we will watch bears without forgetting to admire the beauty of two largest gulfs of Lake Baikal: Chivyrkuyskiy and Barguzinskiy ones.

At that time the lake is splendid: the awakening of nature competes with the retreat of winter, the ice floats and the greenery made its appearance...

The bear reaches a mass from 200 to 300 kg and a height of 2 m. It usually eats herbs, cedar nuts and berries. It can eat no less than a dozen kilos a day. During the autumn months, he accumulates in fat 35 % of its body weight and, with the first snow, settles in a den facing the south to hibernate during 165 days...

Day 1 Transfer to the bus station of Ulan-Ude at about 9 a.m. Departure to Ust-Barguzin by bus (240 km). We will cross taiga and reach the Baikal lakeside, then our way will be along-shore (and sometimes it is only a track, not road...). Arrival to the village. Homestay accommodation, lunch.Discovery of village, walk along the shore. Dinner with locals. In the evening banya (Russian sauna).

Day 4 After breakfast return to Ulan-Ude early in the morning. Arrival to the city at about 2 p.m., transfer to the hotel or to the station. End of the programme.

Days 2 and 3 During two days, early in the morning, we will remain vigilant watching bears, going along-shore and enjoying the sublime landscape: snowy peaks, first vivid greenery, ice floating here and there. We will have a picnic in the open air, sometimes by the fire. To stay overnight we will return to the village to restore the forces before hunting for photos! Banya in the evening.
