Created especially for travellers by train, this route will make you discover the heart of Lake Baikal - Olkhon Island, Great Baikal in its broadest part, the largest gulf of the lake - Barguzinskiy Gulf, the shores of Svyatoy Nos Peninsula, and the fishing village of Ust-Barguzin.

We will devote two days to explore Olkhon, the largest island of the lake, to get to know it perfectly. We will cross the lake in its broadest and deepest part, you will admire the vast size of this Siberian Sea !

After visiting Ust-Barguzin we will have an excursion to the Barguzinskiy Gulf to discover its sandy beach of more than twenty kilometers long - the largest one of Lake Baikal - and to admire the peaks of Svyatoy Nos Peninsula. On our way back we will go along-shore, then cross wild taiga and arrive in Ulan-Ude.

Day 1 Departure to the island early in the morning. Lunch on the way in a Buryat restaurant. Stops in picturesque places on the way. At noon: arrival on Olkhon. Arrival in Khuzhir, the main village of the island. Accommodation in the homestead kept by a resident of the village, 200 metres away from the shore. In the afternoon: discovery of Burkhan rock. Walking around the village, visiting port.

Day 2 Passage by offroadster to the south and to the east shores of the island: Kurykanskaya wall, the salt lake Shara-Nur. Lunch in the open air. Return to Khuzhir on foot (3 hour hike through taiga and steppe) or by car. Banya in the evening in the homestead (Russian bath).

Day 3 After the breakfast: cabotage by boat to Khoboy Cape*, the northern point of the island. It will allow you to discover the beauty of the Maloye More (Small Sea) and its islets. Walk to the cape. Picnic in the open air. Return to Khuzhir by offroadster, on the way: visit to Uzury, a small hamlet in the east of the island. The picturesque way passes through steppes, sandy beaches, taiga, abandoned villages. Homestead overnight in Khuzhir.

Day 4 After the breakfast: passage by offroadster to the north of the island. Boarding a boat. Crossing of the lake. At first we will go along the shore of the island to admire its cliffs and to discover the northern point, Khoboy Cape, its “silhouette” of a woman seen from the lake. Then we will go towards Barguzinskiy Gulf. Arrival to Ust-Barguzin in the evening. Accommodation at locals’. Dinner. Banya in the evening.

Day 5 Excursion to Zabaikalskiy National Park early in the morning. Discovery of Barguzinskiy Gulf and its sandy beaches. Return to Ust-Barguzin for lunch. Departure by car to Ulan-Ude. Arrival in the city at about 6 p.m. Transfer to the station or to the hotel. End of the programme.
