Monument to Yuriy Dolgorukiy

The monument to Yuriy Dolgorukiy, the founder of the city, was erected on August 29th 2003 on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of Kostroma. The bronze prince created by famous Moscow sculptor Vladimir Tserkovnikov weighs 4.2 tonnes and is 4.5 m tall. Sitting on the bench and holding his sword, he points at the Volga River, showing the place for a city to be built.
