Museum of Regional Studies, Nature Department
The exposition of the nature department embraces the geologic history of the Novosibirsk region, its natural resources, relief, soils, climate, flora and fauna. The museum possesses an interesting paleontologic collection which includes a mammoth skeleton found on the territory of the Novosibirsk region in 1939 and bones of big-sized ice age mammals, including those of the primitive buffalo, woolly rhinoceros and gigantic deer. The exposition is rich in petrified remains of plants and sea animals which inhabited the Siberian territory thousands of years ago. Here you can also visit an exposition of exotic fish with tropical water inhabitants, for instance, piranhas, swimming in aquariums.
