The Irkutsk Regional Art Museum named after V.P. Sukachov is the richest art museum in Siberia. It was created on the basis of the private collection of Vladimir Sukachov (1849-1920), an eminent public figure and a mayor of Irkutsk. Ancient Russian and Siberian icons, as well as wooden sculptures of the 18th century are part of the museum’s exhibition. The portrait gallery of the museum’s Russian collection contains canvas by Repin, Polenov, Tropinin, Levitsky, Brullov, Vasnetsov, Kustodiev. The collection of West European paintings is presented by masters from France, Germany, England, Holland and Flanders of the 17th-19th centuries.
