Omsk Academic Drama Theatre

The first wooden building of Omsk Theatre was raised in May 1874. The first professional troupe of actors started their work there. The Omsk Drama Theatre has staged a great number of performances; its current repertoire comprises more than 40 plays. More than 30 directors, including those from Italy and the Czech Republic, have presented their works in Omsk. In the 1950s the theatre started to go on tours in Moscow and other cities of the USSR. Since the 1990s the Omsk Drama Theatre has been taking part in many prestigious international festivals and going on tour abroad. The Omsk region is actively developing and its cultural and economic potential has already gone far beyond the level on which it can correspond to European notions about Siberia.
