Literary Museum of Chekhov's work ”Sakhalin Island”
This literary museum was created thanks to the enthusiasm of the inhabitants of Sakhalin. In the late 20th century, people started sending funds to the bank for the creation of the museum. The director, Georgi Miromanov, started voluntarily gathering the basis of the collection as he visited cities and purchased books, works of arts and tools that had belonged to Chekhov and his family.
This museum is considered as the visiting card of the region. It is hosted in a building from 1954 with a mansard roof which architecture reminds the ”House with the mezzanine” of Chekhov. The collection is regularly completed with authentic items, books, documents linked to the work and character of Chekhov, as well as other artists who reflect the era of the late 19th early 20th centuries.
