Sakhalin Museum of Fine Arts
The Regional Fine Arts Museum is located in the building of the former Japanese bank that was built in 1930. The museum settled in in 1989 but its collections have been gathered since 1983.
The museum contains over 9,000 works of arts among which some precious items of Russian and Oriental art: Chinese screen from the 18th century, icons collection from the 17th to the 19th century, Russian costumes from the 19th century and many others. The ground floor is dedicated to the temporary exhibitions whereas the first floor hosts the permanent exhibitions: ”Modern Art of Korea”, ”Decorative Art of Japan”, ”Russian Art of the 19th and 20th centuries”. Thematic evenings are also organized, some musical, readings, Christmas and charity concerts, as well as presentations for the new items acquired.
