Regional Museum

The Regional Museum created 1838 is one of the oldest museums in Russia. The exhibitions show the history of the region and the life the Russian province from the 18th century to the 20th. The museum went through difficult times during the Second World War, it was badly damaged by bombings and was almost entirely destroyed when German troops left the city. Today the museum is located in the former building of the market which in itself is an interesting architectural monument.
