Gorky Drama Theatre
The official date of the creation of the theatre is June 23rd, 1836, day when the company gave its first performance.
The building that hosts the theatre was built in 1935 and was one of the largest one meant for a theatre in Russia. In the past it could accommodate 2,200 people. As the German troops from World War II left the city they dynamited the theater. It was restored afterwards in 1963. However, the rebuilt theatre can only accommodate 1,165 people. The theatre has three stages: the Small Hall, the Large Hall and the experimental Stage.
