Toporkov Island

Toporkov Island is part of the Komandorksky archipelago and of the Komandorsky national biosphere reserve. It is located west of Bering Island. Its area covering 0.5 square kilometers makes it the third largest island of the archipelago. With its circular shape, the island is flat and close to sea level (highest point: 9 meters). No fresh water can be found on the island. The name “Toporkov” means “tufted puffin”. The island was named after the bird because so many of them live there. Many other marine bird species inhabit the island.
