State Museum of Oriental Art
This museum is dedicated to the culture and art of over a hundred of oriental countries and peoples. Various Russian regions are represented such as Bouryatia and Chukota, but also Caucasian countries, Transcaucasia, Asia and Africa.
The museum’s collection is made out of paintings, drawings, sculptures, decorative art, weapons, and everyday life items. Visitors can see the works of Nicholas Rerikh and his son Sviatoslav, two Russian artists from India. In addition to the permanent collection, a few temporary exhibitions are set up each year.
The State Museum of Oriental Art is also meant to be a research institute and has a large library that contains about four thousand books.
