Church of the "Joy to all the Afflicted” icon of the Mother of God
This church is also known as the “church of the Savior’s Transfiguration”.
It was first built in wood but in 1625 it was replaced by a church in stone. In 1688, it received the “Joy to all the Afflicted” icon, which is said to have cured Patriarch Joaquim’s sister (1620-1290).
The church was partially rebuilt in 1783 in Classical style. It was heavily damaged in the fire that ravaged Moscow in 1812, and had to be rebuilt again (1831-1836) but this time in Empire style.
