    Our journey to the Arctic begins from a lunch in the restaurant-museum “Timan”. Its interior has been created with an inherent to northern people ethnic subjects. Walls decorated with local artists’ paintings, true household items and clothings, books, animal skins (deer, fox, polar fox). Its ambiance is saturated with the spirit of northern culture, its every little thing owns a history abundant of moods and colorings. A hand-brewed beer is an extra pleasantness. One of the saloon has been designed in a special form resembling a chum. Instead of typical chairs – sledge-seats! A cozy corner in its large hall performed as a reflection of a fishing boat!

    Acquantance with NARIAN-MAR
    After lunch city-tour around Naryan-Mar. An introduction to main significant sites of the city in an informal and casual manner. We will open for us the view of the city as it is seen by its residents, tell about its history, amazing features. Visit to a Nenets museum of local history. The contemporary museum shows its visitors three expositions: the first one tells about how humans developed these lands from the VII century BC to present days. The second exposition is dedicated to the ethnography of the district, presenting currently living there peoples. Its central part is devoted to the culture and everyday life of the Nenets. There are less than 50.000 Nenets people left worldwide and almost one of five of them lives in the Nenets Autonomous District. The third exposition reveals the diversity of local flora and fauna.

    Departure by snowmobile to Nelmin-Nose
    Snowmobiles are driven by experienced drivers. The tourists will be seated behind the driver or in passenger sleigh. Most of our way will go through the great northern Pechora River’s bed. Pechora, from time immemorial, has been a nursing water source for lots of local villages. Even to this day people take drinking water directly from the river. On the road we will make a couple of stops.

    Excursion to the Nelmin-Nos village
    Our program includes: a walking tour around the settlement; a visit to the museum, the ethnocultural center; listening to the story about past and today’s life of the settlement. You will learn how the settlements appeared in tundra, how the Soviet Union authorities forced the nomadic people to settle and the subsequent problems this measure caused. You will hear about the perspectives in the development of the national settlement.

    The snowmodiles driving
    Departure by snowmobiles to the traditional Nenets nomads encampment (at a distance of about 40-50 km depending on the month). The transition will take more time, because the route will pass through the Malozemelskaya tundra with numerous streams and slopes of hills. You will feel its impressive vastness, its deafening silence and stark beauty.

    Arrival and accommodation
    The settlement is located nearby the Golodnaya (Hungry) bay – one of the biggest lakes in the area. In spite of its superficiality (average depth is about 2 meters), its area size is larger than a sum of European states of Liechtenstein together with Monaco and Vatican. The Nenets Autonomous Area is known to be a habitat of the tasty whitefishes, nelma and other valuable fish species.

    Dinner
    Dinner and educational programs in the settlement: an acquaintance with northern reindeers, culture and way of life of Nenets reindeer herders, taking a taste of traditional cuisine, taking photos. It will be possible to try traditional northern dishes – stroganin (raw frozen grated fish or venison), pancakes made of deer blood, deer meat broth, northern berries. Introduction to the chum construction and traditional means of transportation for reindeer breeders – sledge. Stars and polar lights observation. You will hear stories about the beliefs of the indigenous people inhabiting the russian far north. Watching of the film named "The White Moss".

    A tour to a reindeer camp
    A tour to a reindeer camp. You will have an opportunity to feed and caress the beautiful and free reindeers that wander on paths trodden over the centuries. Moreover, it will be possible to take a ride on reindeer sleds (under the supervision of our experienced instructors) and take photos while dressed in traditional reindeer skin clothing of the Nenets people - the malitsa. You will as well have a chance to get acquainted with the daily life of the local reindeer herders.
