Museum of Nature History and Ethnography

This museum was founded in February 1889 by the Matveev couple. Thanks to yearly expeditions, the collection of the museum was completed by objects characterizing the lifestyle and culture of the native peoples of the region. The building was designed in an austere variant of modern style with a slight imitation of Egyptian style. During World War II the museum was closed down and the employees were fired. It reopened in October 1945. It is the largest museum of that kind in Siberia. Its collection gathers about 300,000 unique items from archeological, ethnographical and historical point of view.
