Memorial dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the liberation of South Sakhalin and Kuril
The memorial dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the liberation of South Sakhalin and Kuril was unveiled on September 3, 1975 on the anniversary day of the military victory over Japan. In the foundations of the monument a capsule filled with earth from the grounds where many soviet soldiers died was inserted.
On the pedestal a metal plate reads ”the memorial complex is erected in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Victory over Japan. Glory be to the soviet soldier, liberators of the ancient Russian grounds of South Sakhalin and Kuril”. The monument was designed by sculptor A. Turinkov and architects I. Loveyko and A. Bronzov.
