Voskresenskaya Mountain (Resurrection Mountain)

Voskresenskaya Mountain is a steep hill in the city, at the north-west of the mouth of River Uchayka. The hill was named after the first church built in 1662 by the founders of Tomsk, which was called the Church of the Christ's Resurrection. On the mountain top, at the supposed place of foundation of the city a stone block carries the words: ”Here was founded the city of Tomsk in 1664”. The first fort of this new Siberian city was built there. For the 400th anniversary of the city a part of this structure was rebuilt. The hill also has a museum relating the story of the city. It is located in the former building of the firefighters. On the tower of a building stands a statue of a fireman that you are supposed to salute.
