The museum of Irkutsk history was created in 1996. The museum’s exposition is devoted to the city’s history in the broadest sense. The museum presents life of Irkutsk residents in different spaces of time through their everyday life, traditions and mode of life. The main determining characteristic of the museum is a quantitative and qualitative composition of its fund. The museum fund increased 8 times in the period from 1996 to 2005 and made 57157 units of issue. 163 stationary exhibitions, 57 travelling exhibitions, 215 art exhibitions and 46 photo exhibitions had been prepared by the museum from 1996 to 2006. The most popular among the citizens of Irkutsk were the exhibitions within the projects “Irkutsk is a multiethnic city”, “Irkutsk. Three centuries”, “Irkutsk, Your people”, “Fate of a man”.
