Museum of Irkutsk History

The museum of Irkutsk history was created in 1996. The museum’s exhibition is devoted to the city’s history in the broadest sense. The museum presents the life of Irkutsk residents in different times through their everyday life, traditions and way of life. The main determining characteristic of the museum is the quantitative and qualitative composition of its fund. The museum fund increased 8 times from 1996 to 2005 gathering a total of 57,157 items. 163 stationary exhibitions, 57 touring exhibitions, 215 art exhibitions and 46 photo exhibitions were organized by the museum from 1996 to 2006. The most popular among the citizens of Irkutsk were the exhibitions within the projects “Irkutsk is a multiethnic city”, “Irkutsk. Three centuries”, “Irkutsk, Your people”, “Fate of a man”.
