Museum of minerals "Baikal Samotsvet"

The first Russian private museum of minerals was opened in Slyudyanka on May 2nd 1990. It was the realization of an old dream of director Zhigalov Valeriy Alekseevich, who was a photo correspondent for Slyudyanka city newspaper in the past. Today every stone enthusiast visits this museum when they have a chance to come to Slyudyanka. The main museum collection contains minerals of Slyudyanka, which have been gathered by the director since 1975. Nowadays about 10,200 samples of minerals are presented here from many different fields from former USSR and abroad. The most valuable pieces are wonderful samples of Slyudyanka deposits.
