Shinok River's Waterfalls
On Shinok River there are eight waterfalls and a cataract. The waterfalls are unique and very beautiful therefore they became a favorite leisure place for the locals and tourists visiting Altai.
In the heart of the river's basin are located three waterfalls 10 m, 28 m and 70 m high only 500 meters to one kilometer away from one another. In Turkish language Shynok means “falling in a sheer drop”, “inaccessible”.
The river is surrounded by rich forest of pines, growing on the slopes of the mountain which complete the beauty and scale of each waterfall. In 2000 the Shinok River's waterfalls Reserve received the status of “natural monument”. The valley of the river received the status of National Nature Reserve. To this day 233 plant species from the Altai Red Book of protected species have been recorded in the reserve.
