Nizhne-Chazhminskiye Hot Springs
Nizhne-Chazhminskiye hot springs are among the unique natural sites of Kronotsky National Biosphere Reserve. They are located near the mouth of Bolshaya Chazhma River. The rate of flow of the visible part of the springs is 30L/s, that of the hidden part reaches 120L/s. The water’s temperature is between 30 and 56°C, its mineralization rate is low.
A part of the thermal flow is filtered by a beach located on the ocean’s shore and only visible at low tide. The main watercourse flows into a small lake. It doesn’t freeze over and is a wintering place for many birds.
In spring, early vegetation attracts ducks of diverse species. Sticklebacks come to spawn in the lake. On the edge of the springs grow many plants that are listed on Kamchatka’s Red Book of protected species.
Archeologists have been able to prove that these springs were already known in prehistoric times.
