Goryachaya Mountain
Goryachaya Mountain is located 60 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, in the Valley of Paratunka River. It rises between that river and Karymshinoy River. This mountain is a 650 meter high extrusive dome. Its summit offers an amazing view on the valley and on Volcano Vilyuchinsky.
“Goryachaya” means “hot” in Russian. It was named that way because of Verkhnye-Paratunskiye hot springs. Made up of 16 springs, they are located on the north-eastern side of the mountain about 70 meters high. The temperature of the water varies between 39 to 70°C.
They are easy to locate thanks to the steam that comes out of them and the surrounding vegetation. They form three streams. These hot springs are very popular and pools have been created in the narrow beds of the streams. About 70 meters from their mouth they turn into a hot waterfall. Erman’s birch as well as dwarf Siberian pine trees, alder bushes and rowans with elder tree leaves cover the slopes of Goryacha Mountain.
