Polennitsa Mountain

Polennitsa Mountain is a part of Bezymianny stratovolcano that forms a complex volcanic massif. On the southern and south eastern base of this massif are located 16 extrusive domes. They belong to a range called “Plotina” (dam). This name comes from the fact that the range separates the upper reaches of rivers Studionaya and Bolshaya Khapitsa. Polennitsa Mountain is made up of two volcanic outcrops located on the range. “Polennitsa” means “pile of wood”. As it got cold the magma fissured, broke and fell in such a peculiar way that it gave that look to the mountain. Polennitsa is in Klyuchevskoy Volcano Nature Park included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
