Monument to the soldiers dead in Chechnya

The monument to the soldiers of Volvograd’s garrison dead in the conflict in Chechnya was unveiled on November 14, 1996. It was erected thanks to the funds of the military garrison. At the centre of the sculpture a soldier stands with his head bowed in sign of sorrow for the death of his brothers-in-arms. The tablet that was put up on the pedestal of the monument bears the names of the 144 lost soldiers. The monument is located on military ground. However there is free access for anyone who wants to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers.
