What can be said except that this is one of the best destinations for those who have four days at their disposal. To discover Olkhon means to discover the heart of Lake Baikal. This trip is a classical programme to explore the largest island of the lake and to see its sights.

Tour Programme:

Day 1
Departure for the island at about 09.00 am from the city centre of Irkutsk (distance between Irkutsk and Khuzhir is 300 km/186 mi, 5–7 hours depending on a queue for the ferry). Transfer by ferryboat. Arrival in Khuzhir, central village. Accommodation in a local family-owned homestead, 200 m/220 yd from the shore. In the afternoon: possibility to discover Burkhan rock. Village and local port visit.
Day 2
After breakfast excursion by 4X4 to Khoboy cape, the northernmost point of the island. Walk to the cape itself. Picnic in the open air. Drive back to Khuzhir by 4x4. We will travel through beautiful steppes, sand beaches, taiga, abandoned villages. Night in homestead.
Day 3
Free day. Optional (to be reserved on the spot): excursion by 4X4 to the south of the island to discover the remains of ancient walls of the Kurykans; excursion to the east shore of Olkhon to see salt lake Shara-Nur; boat tour; mountain bicycle; horseback ride. Night in homestead.
Day 4
In the morning or at about noon return to Irkutsk by scheduled bus. Arrival in Irkutsk city centre in the afternoon. End of the programme.

Price Comment

For a period from December 15 through May 20 when ferry does not operate, additional transfer from ferry station to Khuzhir is possible for a supplement of 4200 RUB per group.

From December 15 to late January and from April 1 to May 20 Lake Baikal is freezing over and thawing, respectively. In these periods communication between the island and the continent is done either by boat, or by hydroskimmer. Therefore, you will have an additional fee to be paid on the spot (about 300 RUB).
