Tour Overview

The ethnographic museum of the peoples of Transbaikalia is the most visited place in Ulan-Ude. It is an open air museum in the village of Verkhnaya Berezovka near Ulan-Ude. The museum keeps some unique artefacts that show in detail the culture and everyday life of the peoples of Buryatia and their different economic and social development. Visitors can see tiled burial places that date back to the Bronze Age, felt yurts from the Middle Age and wooden monuments from the 20th century. The museum opened in 1973, it is now considered as one of the most uncommon open air museum. Covering an area of 56 acres, the museum receives more than 100,000 visitors each year. The museum is laid out so that each and every one of the ethnic groups who lived in the near Baikal region has their own place.
